The Indians

It has been an exciting season for the Indians, and it isn’t over yet. Tonight, the Indians will take on the Lockney Longhorns for their first play-off appearance in football since 2012.

The team has performed well throughout the season, beating Plains and Smyer in district play. Head Coach Keith Mauldin said early on in the year that he believed the Indians could do big things this season and that has shown to be true.

With standout player junior Dante Chavez leading the Indians as the quarterback for the first time in his career this season, he has garnered much acclaim and even snagged the Lubbock Avalanche Journal’s A-J Player of the Week honor in early October. Chavez has been an invaluable player to the Indians this year, and has done a phenomenal job at taking on the role of Quarterback this season.

The Indians have shown drastic improvement from previous seasons, ending the regular season with a 5-5 record. This is the first time since their return to 11 man football that they have won more than 4 games the entire season. The last time the Indians racked up 5 or more wins in the regular season was in 2011.

The Indians have a well stacked team of strong players who have been finding their rhythm and passion for the game of football this season. The Indians will only lose Senior Alex Lopez at the conclusion of the season, which means we will return with a well experienced and much improved roster. Major players for the Indians such as Christian Enriquez, Lane Lyon, Eric Rivas, and Brayden Villarreal, along with the rest of our big players for the Indians will be back next season.

Spirits are high in Morton as our Mighty Indians travel to Hereford tonight to take on one of the biggest games of these young men’s lives. Tonight they will set the tone for not only the postseason, but what lies ahead for Morton Indian Football. Tonight, our beloved Indians will make history. Whether from at home on your phone, your TV, or in the stands at Hereford, help cheer our Indians on to a victory tonight!
