Junior High Band performs well

Last week, eight Morton Junior High students individually competed in Middle School All-Region Band auditions. For All-Region auditions, students were required to learn 1 page of scales and 2 pages of music. Students play a randomly selected section from the scale page and each page of music and are ranked by a panel of judges. The highest ranked students are enrolled in a multi-school band that then performs a concert in the spring. Tryouts are normally held in person every year and band students from almost 20 different 1A and 2A schools compete. This year, auditions were done virtually via recordings over a 2-day period. Morton students who auditioned were: 7th Graders Ismael Castaneda on Trumpet, Malorie Villarreal on Trumpet, Aubrey Ramon on Trumpet, EJ Rivas on Baritone, Frances Alvarado on Percussion and 8th graders Faith Zapata on Clarinet, Eli Boleyn on Alto Saxophone and AJ Mendoza on Trumpet. All students represented Morton well and ranked above several other students from surrounding schools. EJ Rivas placed 4th overall out of 22 Baritone players and was assigned to the Symphonic Band. Morton ISD is proud of all the students who participated and celebrate their hard work.
