It has been a year of great accomplishments in Morton ISD. Here is a list of the many achievements made by our students this year:
Academics: Elementary UIL: Oral Reading (4th and 5th grades) , Story Telling (2nd grade), Number Sense (2nd, 3rd,5th and 6th grades), Creative Writing (2nd grade), Music Memory (5th grade), Ready Writing (5th grade) Junior High UIL: Chess Puzzling (2) 7th grade, Dictionary Skills (4) 6th, 7th and 6th grade team, Listening (2) 6th and 7th grades, Number Sense (2) 6th and 7th grades, Science (1) 8th grade, Impromptu (2) 6th and 7th grades, Modern Oratory (5) 6th, 7th and 8th grades. High School UIL: Feature Writing (1st place – advance to regional), Headline Writing (2nd place – advance to regional), Copy Editing (2nd place – advance to regional), Science (1st place – advance to regional). Spelling – 6th place FFA – Fifth place at the West Hardin FFA Trailer Build Contest (first time we have ever competed in a trailer build), Champion Metal project at the Cochran County Stock Show, 2 Blue Ribbon projects and 2 Red Ribbon Projects at San Angelo Stock Show, 2 Blue Ribbon projects and 2 Red Ribbon Projects at San Antonio Stock Show, 1 Blue Ribbon project at the Houston Stock Show FCCLA – Regional FCSA Mission Creed Purpose – 1 Gold, 2 Silver, Regional FCSA Child Development: 2 winners, Regional Illustrated Talk STAR Event – Gold medal team, Illustrated Talk STAR Event, State Qualifier, State FCSA Mission Creed Purpose: 3 1st Place, 1 Second Place, Illustrated Talk STAR Event – Gold Medal & National Qualifier
Fine Arts: One Act Play: 1 rating, 1st advance in 20 years Art: 3rd place Cake Decorating (3), 6 Exemplary ratings and 2 Good ratings Texas Elementary Art Meet Band: 1 in Concert for the first time in over 20 years
Sports: Basketball: Girls varsity district and area champions – advance to regional playoffs, district defense MVP, 5 All District, 7 Academic All District, 1 All Region Tennis: District Champions, Boys division champs, Girl division runner-up, boys singles champion, boys doubles champions and runner-up, girls singles runner up, girls doubles runner-up, mixed doubles district champions and regional champions, 10 regional qualifiers, mixed doubles team advance to state. 10 all district 7 academic all district\, 3 TTCA academic all state, 6 regional quarter finalists,2 all region players Golf: Boys – District Champs, Girls District Champ, Girls Team- 2nd place district, Boys- 3rd at Regionals – State Qualifiers, Girls Regional 3rd Medalist – State Qualifier Track/Cross Country: XC-Regional qualifier boys team, one girl regional qualifier Track-girls- area qualifiers-800 relay, shot put, 200 m dash, 800 meter run, 1600 meter run. Boys track: Area qualifiers in 4X100 relay, 4X200 relay, 4X400 relay, 800 meter run, 1600 meter run, 3200 meter run, high jump.
